Barcelona and Real Madrid stars headline Croatia’s World Cup squad

Zlatko Dalic’s side will face tough opposition from the likes of Argentina, Iceland and Nigeria in Group D. Qualification, as a result, will not come on a silver platter knowing the prowess of their opposition.

Croatia will have the opportunity to warm up for the impending tournament and trim their long shortlist to just 23 men when they play Brazil and Senegal in a friendly on June 3 and June 8 at Anfield and Gradski Vrt respectively.

Coach’s Objective

Argentina endured a tough test to secure qualification from the South American region, Iceland still have the fighting spirit they exhibited at the Euros unblemished whereas Nigeria has the status of continental champions of Africa. For Croatia, progressing to the Round of 16 and subsequently to the quarterfinal will be nothing short of a commendable achievement.

New Faces

Croatia is among the few countries with debutante in their ranks. Karlo Letica, Dije Caleta-Car, and Borna Sosa are the players who are yet to play a single official match for the senior national team.

Veterans

Goalkeeper Danijiel Subasic, Vedran Corluka, Luka Modric, Mario Mandzukic and Ivan Rakitic can be listed as the band with immense experience in the side.

Absentees

With the squad yet to be reduced to 23 men, there has been no notable omissions yet. Below is the full 32-man provisional list:
